The History of Sound Therapy
Sound baths date back more than 2,000 years, with roots in Tibet. Sound Baths are an ancient sound-healing practice whereby the practitioner/facilitator leads the clients into a relaxed position and allows the healing sounds of instruments to bathe the client. Sounds has been a tool for promoting the physical and emotional health of the body for as long as history can account for. The ancient Egyptians used vowel chants in healing because they believed vowels were sacred. Tibetan monks utilize singing bowls which they believe to be the "symbol of the unknowable whose vibrations have been described as the sounds of the universe manifesting." Native American Medicine Men and Women would fast and perform different rituals in order to receive a dream or vision instructing them on how to carry out the treatment for their patient using different sound healing techniques.
